Polish Health Ministry to Implement Measures for Monitoring Medical Staff Work Hours and Salaries
The Polish Ministry of Health, represented by Deputy Minister Tomasz Maciejewski, has announced plans to introduce measures to monitor the working hours and salaries of medical personnel. The initiative aims to prevent overlapping work schedules and ensure compliance with labor regulations. The National Health Fund (NFZ) will require hospitals to report detailed work schedules, enabling verification of medical staff presence at specific locations. This move addresses concerns over excessive working hours, with some cases reportedly exceeding 488 hours per month or 120 consecutive hours.
The Ministry is also working on legislation to allow the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System (AOTMiT) to collect data on medical professionals' earnings, linked to their PESEL numbers or professional licenses. This data will be used to create new policies for healthcare remuneration. The proposed law, which has already passed through parliament, awaits the president's signature. Currently, 73% of specialist doctors in Poland work on contracts, with significant variations in payment structures and earnings. The reform aims to address discrepancies and improve transparency in the healthcare system.
